Your Library Card

Getting your card at Hartford Public Library

Your Library Card

All patrons must be registered and have a library card. Each applicant must fill out a registration form with current address, phone contact and/or email address. Proof of residency is required, such as a valid driver's license, state ID card or current bill. We support and participate in the Michicard Program.

Children under 18 years of age may have their own library card. A parent or guardian accepts responsibility for all library materials borrowed on the child's library card.

Borrowing Limits
Books, audio books and magazines are checked out for a period of two weeks. The library reserves the right to limit the number of books a patron may borrow.

Placing Holds
Books may be placed on hold by contacting the library during business hours. You must be a card holder to place a hold on a book.

Renewing Your Borrowed Items
Books may be renewed once, if there is not a waiting list. Request for renewal is taken over the telephone during library hours however, the patron should know the author and titles of the items in order to be renewed. Renewals can be made on or before the due date. Interlibrary loan books are due on the date indicated by the lending library, occasionally they may be renewed. Contact the library staff for renewal.

Library Fines
To encourage the prompt return of materials, the library has established a fine as a penalty and as a reminder to those patrons who fail to return materials by the due date. Overdue fines are .05¢ per day per item for books and $1.00 a day for DVDs. Total fines are not to exceed the cost of the material. Fines will be computed from the due date. Patrons with overdue material may be restricted from checking out new material. Lost or mutilated items must be paid for according to the amount of current replacement value.
